The Diocese of Virginia
The Episcopal Church in the USA has 100 dioceses. A diocese is a geographical grouping of churches and there are three dioceses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Grace and Holy Trinity Church is in the Diocese of Virginia, which runs from the James River in the south to the Potomac River in the north, westward to the Shenandoah Valley and eastward to the Chesapeake Bay (the shaded area in the map).

A diocese is led by a bishop and the Bishop of Virginia is the Rt. Rev. Shannon Johnston (pictured below left). He is assisted by the Rt. Rev. Susan Goff and by the Rt. Rev. Edwin F. "Ted" Gulick, Jr. You can learn more about the work of the Diocese of Virginia by following this link: www.thediocese.net.
