About Us

The mission of Grace & Holy Trinity Church is to be an inclusive, spirited, and Christ-centered parish in the heart of downtown Richmond that transforms lives. Our vision is that all who come here will joyfully celebrate God’s love and share the transforming power of that love throughout the church, throughout the city of Richmond, and throughout the world. We seek to make this mission a reality through a variety of ministries open to all.

Grace & Holy Trinity Church was founded in 1858. We are both historic and forward-thinking, intellectual and compassionate, traditional and open-minded. Inside our beautiful sanctuary, you’ll find people of all backgrounds coming together for meaningful worship, spiritual growth, caring relationships, and community outreach.

Our parish is large enough to offer dynamic programming yet small enough to feel like family. Besides our Sunday worship services, you’re invited to take part in our educational classes, social gatherings, small groups, special events, children’s programs, musical offerings, and much more. Parishioners also participate in community outreach, from serving the community through our Red Door Ministry and assisting Richmond-area charities, to supporting medical missions in Belize.

At Grace & Holy Trinity, we are not just a parish. We are a church family who support each other in times of need. We are here for one another through the ups and downs of life, from weddings, births, and baptisms to illnesses, sorrow, and doubt.

The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church is part of the Anglican Communion, the third largest Christian body in the world. The Anglican Communion encompasses more than 80 million members in 160 countries. Grace & Holy Trinity Church is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia led by Bishop Mark Stevenson.

While we share many qualities and beliefs of our fellow Christian churches, several tenets makes us Episcopalian:

  • Our worship services are rooted in liturgical traditions and follow The Book of Common Prayer; a typical service includes New and Old Testament readings, sacred hymns, prayers, a sermon, confession and assurance of forgiveness, and the Holy Eucharist–or communion.
  • Every Baptized Christian regardless of denomination is welcome to receive communion.
  • Anyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or marital status, may lead in worship and may serve as bishops, priests, and deacons.
  • The Episcopal Church permits any couple, regardless of sexual orientation, the rite of holy matrimony.

Style & Brand Guidelines

Primary External Logo

Grace & Holy Trinity Church began a rebrand in 2022. Upon adopting the new brand, Grace & Holy Trinity’s logo was redesigned to easily communicate the church’s Episcopal identity. The use of the Episcopal shield and the Episcopal Church’s brand colors, combined with the tagline defining Grace & Holy Trinity as “an Episcopal parish on Monroe Park” helps to solidify who we are within the local community and the Christian community.

Internal Logo

The ornament is a symbol for Grace & Holy Trinity Church. The symbol was designed by Richard P. Hankins. The anchor cross is an ancient symbol of Hope; the chi is the Greek “X” that has been a symbol for Christ since ancient days; and the combination of the anchor and the chi creates a symbol for “Grace.” The triquetra is also ancient in origin and symbolizes the “Holy Trinity. This symbol is interchangeable with the Episcopal Shield within our primary logos for internal matters.
