Easter 2022

Highlights

Parents Night Out/Save the Date for the next PNO
Our second Parents’ Night Out (PNO) of the season is this Friday night, July 22nd. For parents who have registered, this is a reminder that childcare is provided at the church beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Cocktail hour with Duane at Brambly Park Winery in Scott’s Addition begins at 5:30 p.m. Registration is closed for this event, but registration for the August Parents’ Night out (August 12th) is now open through August 10th.

Senior Brunch Moved to Sunday, August 28 – Following the 10:30 a.m. Service
The Senior Brunch has been moved from Sunday, August 7th to Sunday, August 28th. Parishioners of a Certain Age are invited to assemble in the Parish Hall for brunch in honor of their accumulated wisdom, and mostly to enjoy each other’s company. Youth are invited to serve the meal from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

GHTC Parish Choir SoundCloud
A music video of “I Was Glad” from the Grace & Holy Trinity worship service of Pentecost on June 5th, 2022, has been released on our GHTC YouTube Channel. This video was created to promote the full album of Pentecost 2022. The Pentecost 2022 album will be live as of next Thursday, July 28th, on the GHTC Parish Choir SoundCloud, and will be the second contribution to the permanent GHTC Parish Choir collection. The link to the Pentecost 2022 album will be shared first on GHTC’s Facebook page on Thursday, July 28th, and then in the eNews on Friday, July 29th.

Worship in the Parish Hall Begins Sunday, July 31
The Property Committee has planned several enhancements to our worship space that will take place during the month of August. To prepare for these enhancements, we will begin worshiping in the Parish Hall on Sunday, July 31st through the end of August. We will return to our newly enhanced worship space in time for the start of the program year in September. Questions? Contact Paul Evans.

The New Sound System is Funded
In an act of extraordinary generosity, an anonymous gift has been made to meet the goal of full funding for the long-awaited sound system. We are profoundly grateful to our wonderful donor, and you will surely share in this gratitude when you can hear everything from everywhere in the worship space this fall.

Help Us Share Your News
We are eager to include your announcements related to Parish Life and other events. In order for us to best serve you, we ask that those of you at the helm of adult groups submit your announcements to Kyle Reed by the end of the day on the Monday that falls eleven days before you want it to be included in Friday’s eNews and the following Sunday morning bulletin insert. For example, if you would like to have an announcement published in those parish communications in the Friday, July 29th eNews and the Sunday, July 31st bulletin insert, we ask that you submit your information by the end of the day on Monday, July 18th. We put the publications to bed on the following day, so our editing, graphics, proofing, and printing staff members have the needed lead time to get it done up to your standards. Questions? Contact Paul Evans in the parish office »

Worship

Beth Davis Returns
Following successful hip surgery and the proper recovery time, Beth is back at the organ and in the choir room. We are glad it all went well for her, and are very happy to welcome her back. We are also most grateful to David Wheeler, Stephen Henley, and Cheryl Van Ornam, who filled in for her with style, grace, and considerable skill.

Blessing of the Backpacks – Sunday, August 28, 10:30 a.m. service
As the children of the parish return to another school year, we invite them to bring their backpacks to church on Sunday, August 28th, to receive a blessing over their supplies and their studies. This year, there will be an outreach component to this event. We encourage you to bring donations of school supplies to support the Anna Julia Cooper School, one of our community partners that serves families and children with limited resources. We invite your donations of classic school supplies for 2nd through 8th graders, especially dry erase markers, notebook paper, pencils, pens, and tissues. Clergy will bless the backpacks and the donations at the same time during worship.

Education

Children’s Chapel
For the rest of the summer, instead of the usual Sunday School, children are invited to join us for Children’s Chapel. We will gather in the church with the whole congregation at 10:30 a.m., and then, early in the service, the children will process out of church and head upstairs to attend a simplified children’s liturgy in the children’s Sunday school room. (The moment will be noted in the bulletin.) Each day, we will sing, offer prayers, hear a Bible reading, and learn about one of the saints. Please collect the children immediately following the service.

Parish Life

Spirited Sisters meets August 8 at Burger Bach
Spirited Sisters, a women’s group of the parish, will meet next on Monday, August 8th at 5:30 p.m. at Burger Bach in Carytown. If you’d like to join for supper, please contact Cathy Saunders.

Summer Office Hours
The church Summer office hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. We will return to the regular 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. schedule on Monday, September 12th (the Monday after Labor Day).

Outreach

Red Door Volunteer Day
We hope to have plenty of youth, friends, and family come serve with Red Door Ministry from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on August 19th. In addition to service days, youth and families are welcome to join any Friday this summer. Please let us know by August 17th for this specific event, or by the Wednesday before any Friday. You can contact Kyle Bomar or Alan Lai, our volunteer coordinator.

Return of CirclesRVA to the Parish Hall
After many months of meeting only on Zoom, the Parish Hall is once again the place where CirclesRVA convenes in person on selected Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The next Circles meetings convene on July 26th and August 2nd.
