Parish Ministry Fair this Morning Following the 10:30 a.m. Service
How might God be calling you to serve as we begin a new program year? This morning after worship we invite you to explore the many ministries of the parish by speaking with ministry leaders  and representatives gathered in the parish hall. Food will be provided, including assorted sandwiches from Cuisine a la Carte. There will also be a special drawing for your chance to win one of many donations of parishioners’ time, talents, and special skills. Nursery hours have been extended through the end of the fair around 12:30 p.m.

“Hope for Ukraine” Concert is Next Saturday, 9/23, 3:00 p.m.
Grace & Holy Trinity will host the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra & Chorus next Saturday for a concert on their “Hope for Ukraine” tour. If you plan to attend and have not purchased admission, please do so before Wednesday, September 20th when advanced admission is closed. Advanced admission is $25 per person, and $15 per person for a group of ten or more. Limited admission will be available at the door at $30 per person. All funds raised at this concert go directly towards humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine including widows, wounded soldiers, orphaned and needy children, and all who require hope and healing in the war-torn country.

Formation Programs for All Ages Offered Before 10:30 a.m. Worship
The 2023-2024 Program Year began last Sunday, September 10th. Formation for all ages will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., including a special classroom for children up through fourth grade, another for our fifth through twelfth graders. Adults can choose between a formation series offered in the multipurpose room off the parish hall or the lectionary group that meets in the library.

Please Wear Your Name Tags
This is a gentle reminder to please wear your name tags when you come to church. Grace & Holy Trinity is fortunate to have visitors and new parishioners joining us each week. Wearing your nametag is an important part of our hospitality to all and a visible reminder to newcomers and lifelong members alike that we are an open and welcoming community. Please pick up your name tags along the wall in the hallway as you enter from the Cherry Street parking lot, and please leave them there when you leave church. If you need a name tag for the first time or if you have misplaced yours, please contact Communications Associate Tyler Brady.

Sunday Evening Service Has Returned, Now at 5:30 p.m.
The Sunday evening service, held last year at 5:00 p.m., has returned with a new time for worship. Ease into the beginning of a new week with this beautiful, ancient service of Compline from the Book of Common Prayer. Led by a chorus of the GHTC Parish Choir, the service lasts about thirty minutes. For more information, please contact Associate Rector Paul Evans.

Education

First 2023-2024 Confirmation Retreat is This Sunday
The first Confirmation Retreat of the 2023-2024 program year will be held at the church on Sunday, September 17th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Led by Associate Rector Paul Evans, this retreat will focus on the important question “What is Confirmation?” As we have previously communicated, we will be repeating the same four retreats held last year in anticipation of a May 2024 Bishop’s visit to confirm everyone who has participated in all four retreats. The second confirmation retreat this fall will be held on Sunday, November 12th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at church. This second session will focus on the question “What does it mean to be Christian?” Please contact Associate Rector Paul Evans to sign up for the September 17th confirmation retreat.

Parish Life

Men’s Group Coffee – September 23
The Men’s Group will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23rd at Ellwood Thompson’s in Carytown. A variety of coffee options, bagels, and pastries are available for purchase at the cafe.

Holy Strollers Excursion – Saturday, October 7
We invite you to join the Holy Strollers’ next excursion as we walk from church to the Potterfield Memorial Bridge, named after Tyler Potterfield, a former member of the church. Tyler Potterfield was a senior planner for the City of Richmond and helped bring the Richmond Riverfront Plan into existence. We will depart from the church parking lot on Saturday, October 7th at 5:00 p.m. sharp. The walk will last about an hour and a half, and the hills on the route may be slightly challenging for some. You may want to layer comfortable clothes, wear walking shoes or boots, and bring water. If you have questions or would like to attend, please contact Susan Hankins.

Other Communications

A Word About Parish Communications
If you have an announcement that you would like to share in our parish communications, please contact Associate Rector Paul Evans directly by calling the parish office at (804) 359-5628 x16.

Beware of Phishing and Other Scams
Please beware of any communication (email, phone calls, texts) purporting to be from members of our clergy, staff, or from someone communicating on our behalf. No member of the Grace & Holy Trinity clergy or staff will ever contact you asking you “for a favor,” such as purchasing gift cards. These are tactics used by scammers, and they are more common than you might think. Please be cautious and use good judgment.
