It was not the first time the city had saturday, november 5 endured a hurricanes fury. The severe damage that resulted from the richmond flood wall floodwaters on that June day in 1972 persuaded government officials (approx. 2-3 miles, some steps) to protect the citys low-lying areas. The Floodwall, which was completed in 1995, was the result. Well be walking on a paved path on top of the wall, along the south side of the James River. The walk starts underneath the Manchester Bridge and goes to Mayos Bridge. Because the path is elevated, it puts you above the river, which gives you grand views of the waters flowing east and of the downtown business district. The amazing redevelopment of the Manchester area also has its own vista. Construction continues there, with neglected urban sites, old industrial parcels, and other parts of Manchester now becoming homes and businesses for a new generation. FALL 2022 | 9'
