Dear Grace and Holy Trinity Community,

I am honored to be called by the Vestry to be your next Rector. I look forward to even more partnering together in a shared ministry approach.

I ask you to join me in giving thanks to God for the Vestry’s tremendous efforts. They have put in long hours with many additional meetings during this discernment process. I am especially grateful for the supporting leadership of Lisa Dawson, Senior Warden, and Thomas Bradshaw, Junior Warden, who have been meeting with me weekly over the last couple of months. Thank you also to the staff and to our volunteers for their commitment to their ministries. I give thanks to my wife Monica for her unwavering support. It certainly takes a village to support a village!

Besides a title change on my door and in the bulletin, what’s next? As Jesus said, “Come and See.” (– John 1:39 & 46).

First, I invite you to join us on November 1st for our All Saints Sunday worship and reception. I always love this feast day in the life of the church and it was the day my sons were baptized. We will give thanks to the saints in our lives, bless the 2027 pledges and renew our baptismal vows. These vows are a promise to continue to fulfill God’s ministry together.

Next, I hope you will come to hear from me on Sunday, November 8th at 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. in the First Floor Classroom. I will open the conversation with a brief reflection, share how I will approach and encourage leadership as Rector, and listen to your questions.

Lastly, please join us at the Oyster Roast on Sunday, November 15th at 4:00 p.m. to share in one of creation’s best foods as we watch the sun set over the James River and connect with our amazing GHTC community. As our dismissal says, “Friends, life is short and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel with us.”

I am eager to begin as Rector traveling with you into the years ahead. I pray that God will watch over and guide us. Blessings!

In Peace,

The Rev. Brent A. Melton, D. Min.

Rector of Grace & Holy Trinity Church!
