2026 Vestry Election Candidates

Class of 2029

2026 Vestry Election Candidate Bios

Robert Cillessen

Grace and Holy Trinity has been a source of strength and comfort during turbulent times for all of us. It is truly special to be part of this welcoming community that is dedicated to the people of greater Richmond and
especially VCU.

I have had the experience of working in Circles RVA, a wonderful experience meeting people from different backgrounds and life experiences. It is a truly moving experience to be part of their growth and see the financial lives improve for their family and themselves.

Currently, I work as a strategic account manager in the electronics industry. This position can be described as the person in the middle trying to do what is best for the company and customers.

Michael Hale

Mike and his wife, Sandie, became members of Grace and Holy Trinity in 2018, and have been active in the ministry of the church ever since. Mike sees great potential for the future of the parish, and is grateful to be considered for the Vestry in 2026. He is anxious to be an active participant in that future!

Mike grew up in East Tennessee, and has a marketing degree from the University of Tennessee. He and Sandie moved their family to Richmond 30 years ago, and fell in love with life in Virginia. Mike’s career was spent in the food service and wine industries until his retirement in March, 2023.

Since becoming a member of GHTC, Mike has been involved in several areas of ministry. He was elected to serve on the Vestry in 2021, where he chaired the nominating committee in January of 2024. He has also served for the past two years as an evaluator for the GHTC Outreach
Grant applications.

In addition, Mike serves as an usher at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services. As the music ministry at Grace and Holy Trinity is especially important to Mike, he has also enjoyed opportunities to help as needed with logistics for the Concert Series. His involvement with the Hospitality Committee since the fall of 2022 has proven to be one of his most active roles at GHTC. He enjoys attending the Men’s Group coffee hours and the Adult Forum classes.

Mike is also a very proud dad and granddaddy, and he and Sandie enjoy spending time with their family. Their son, Jonathan, and his wife, Carolyn, live in Lynchburg, and their daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Chris, live in Mechanicsville with their three children, Emma, George,
and Lydia.

Terry Hathaway

Teresa “Terry” Hathaway and her husband, Mark, became members of Grace and Holy Trinity in 1994 finding a church family that nurtured their faith, offered meaningful worship, and was committed to community outreach. Terry has served the parish in several leadership and ministry roles, including board member and president of the GHTC Child Care Center, Children and Youth Formation teacher, and Acting Coordinator for Children and Youth Formation during a leadership transition. She has also served as a Vestry member, on the Ministry Architects’ Renovation Team, and on the search committee for the Director of Christian Formation. Terry co-chairs the Caroling in the Park and Christmas Market Committee, serves on the Missions and Outreach Committee, and as a lay reader at the 8:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees. Terry retired in 2023 from a career in education that began as a Peace Corps volunteer and included service in teaching and administration.

Alexander volunteers with Boy Scout Troop 400 and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richmond and serves on the boards of the American Civil War Museum and the 500-Year Forest Foundation. He previously served on the Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Alexander enjoys GHTC’s family atmosphere and the effort that everyone makes to meet each other and collectively work for the betterment of the church. He is also grateful for GHTC’s clergy, staff, liturgy, and, most of all, its music.
